Cape Cod Transformation

This Silver Spring Cape Cod-style home received a modern transformation with a focus on creating an open and functional kitchen space. The homeowners, enthusiasts of Mid-Century Modern design, sought to expand their existing kitchen while maintaining the home's original charm. A 13-foot addition to the rear of the house provided an additional 475 square feet of living space, dramatically enhancing the kitchen and living areas.

The expanded kitchen now features a large central island, perfect for both meal preparation and casual dining. To create a seamless flow between the kitchen and living room, a wall was removed, while the original brick wall was retained and painted a vibrant orange. A concealed steel beam ensures structural integrity.

The kitchen's design seamlessly blends Mid-Century Modern elements with the Cape Cod's classic character. Sleek cabinetry, modern appliances, and a neutral color palette create a clean and contemporary aesthetic. The preserved brick wall adds a touch of industrial charm, while ample natural light to enhance the space's warmth and openness.
