With this Forest Hills DC Project our clients purchased a1940s home thinking the rundown property only needed a cosmetic makeover. It turned out that the brick walls were damaged in several places, the plumbing and wiring were outdated, there walls had zero insulation, there was no air conditioning, and drafty single-pane windows throughout the home.
The family of five wanted to modify the layout to create a large open kitchen with an adjacent mudroom, update all bathrooms, and create a family room in the basement. The clients had an outline of a plan from a previous designer. We needed to significantly modify the existing plans and include additional repair work discovered during construction.
The family has young children and both spouses have busy legal careers. They selected Landis to fully oversee the project and complete the work as quickly as possible as they simultaneously closed on the sale of their previous home. We were able to complete the major renovation of 4,700 sq ft in six months, accommodating the clients’ request for an expedited completion. The clients now refer to this project as a “house rescue.”
We installed new railing, flooring, and French doors on the upstairs deck off the master bedroom deck. We installed a new garage door and siding on the garage gable and rear of the house.
