The client wanted a “wow” wall to display art and sculptures they had collected over the years during their world travels. The couple had downsized from a suburban townhouse to this condominium in the city. The condo had open rooms and less wall space to display their vast collection. They asked us to design and build a gallery/museum look wall in the living room. Grand Award, Interior Element under $30K, 2016 NARI Metro DC Chapter Capitol CotY Award.
Our designer’s original thought was to build glass shelves. However, in discussions with the clients, they were worried that that design would look like a gift shop. After some research by both the designer and clients, they agreed upon this look with niches. The niche boxes are made of plywood and the front face is drywall. The crown molding matches the existing molding in the room.
